Recurrent 30:00

My Dear Friends,

I want to reassure you! This is not a conceptual piece. Instead, it is pure sonic exploration. Some months ago, my dear friend Nicola Narbone, who also designed the beautiful cover of “Recurrent”, asked me to make some music for a streaming event for ISIA U, Istituto Superiore per le Industrie Artistiche di Urbino.

As always when one is faced with a commissioned job, it is mainly about having to overcome a problem. In this case, the problem was the duration of the piece. For the limited tools I had available, making a piece lasting 4 hours could be problematic. I then solved the problem in the most basic way, I assembled 30 minutes of music, consisting of around ten tracks, lasting about 7-8 minutes each. Then I simply edited all the stuff in a A-B-A-C kind of form, so that it was easily loopable. This also allowed me to play a lot with the atmospheres and avoid ending up with 30 minutes of boring drones.

I wanted the piece to tie into the textures, patterns and modules in some way. So the soundscape that came out of it is something very rough and very airy, but at the same time very controlled and orderly, as if one were transferring the design of an imaginary landscape into sound. To do this I used an electric guitar, effect pedals, a synthesizer, laptop, and field recordings.

What can I say...I really hope you like it. I decided to release this piece because it seems to me that he could live his life alone. It's yet another room where you can spend 30 minutes if you feel like it.

Have a good listen!
